FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
- Q – “My screen is dead / black and I get NO audio - will this product fix my issue?”
- A – Yes. The 2011-2014 Edge and Explorer (and others) are extremely prone to the APIM failing causing a blank screen. If you have a black screen and no audio, this will fix the issue - guaranteed.
- Q – “My screen is dead / black but I can still hear and control the radio - will this product fix my issue?”
- A – No. If the screen is black, but the radio plays and you can control the track / volume from the physical buttons, then the issue is likely the touchscreen has failed.
- Q – “I can see what is being displayed on screen, but the screen does not respond to touch input - will this product fix my issue?”
- A – No. The touchscreen has failed and requires replacement. See our "Replacement Touchscreen for SYNC 2"
- Q – “I get the error "Entertainment Unavailable" and I cant access any music sources. Will replacing the APIM fix this error.”
- A – No. This is an issue with the ACM (Audio Control Module). We do not sell these.
- Q – “I no longer get audio from any of my sources (AM/FM/XM/CD) but the touchscreen still works. Will replacing the APIM fix this error.”
- A – No. This is an issue with the ACM. We do not sell these.
- Q – “Does this need to be programmed at the dealer?”
- A – No. We pre-program the module using the VIN you provide at checkout.
- Q – “My backup camera does not work, will this fix it?”
- A – No. Backup camera failures are common. If the backup camera is not working, it will need to be replaced.
- Q – “If I update my Sync system using the Ford SyncMyRide website, will that cause the navigation feature to be deactivated?”
- A – No. A consumer installed software update will NOT affect this navigation upgrade.
- Q – “Will this kit void my factory warranty?”
- A – No. This kit will not void your vehicle warranty. Although Ford will not warranty the components in our kit, we do for one full year!
- Q – “Will this kit affect my SiriusXM subscription?”
- A – No. SiriusXM subscriptions are NOT affected by our kit - your SiriusXM ID will remain the same.

ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!
I can not praise 4D Tech high enough, from the quick email confirmation, instant chat answers, lightning fast free shipping to the easy to follow and essential video tutorial! I was hesitant but read the reviews and went for it and am so glad I did. The dealership told me the recall/extended warranty extension Ford has out on my truck was expired now so nothing they could do. The part worked just as told for my 2011 Ford Explorer Limited. First and occasionally, my screen would go black over the last year but would come back on a day later so I felt I could deal with it but now the screen remained off for a few weeks and was totally black. I could not utilize all of the vehicle options and drove in silence as the audio system wouldn't even turn on either. I tried YouTube video hacks and Ford blogs to pull fuses and the main line but NOTHING worked. I bit the bullet and ordered this and I am in heaven to have use of my screen, backup camera etc again!!! My dealer quote was around 1200.00 and we did it for the cost of the part, saving me hundreds! My screen went black about a week ago in our 2011 Ford Explorer Limited. After doing research on the web, found this site and descriptions of the problems I was having. Ordered the new APIM and it arrived in 3 days. Installed on 5/14/18. Took about 20 minutes after watching video on this site. Worked perfectly without a hitch. Impressed with the service and the part. Thanks guys.

This is the real deal
I was a little skeptical about it at first but the dealership wanted $1600 to replace the APIM in my '12 Explorer compared to $700 through 4D. There were also a lot of really great reviews and DIY instructions on YouTube that vouched for the product. Short story, it was super easy to replace and absolutely works as advertised. It was a really good decision to do it this way. All kidding aside, replacement takes less than 30 minutes start to finish. Plug and play. I'm just thrilled. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that it doesn't seem to come with the latest updates of Sync installed. My Explorer is back to doing some of the older quirky stuff that the latest software fixed. Still not a big deal, just re-downloaded and updated it again myself. Still am up $800 compared to Ford doing it. The APIM is a known high failure rate item so this probably won't be the last replacement unit but the warranty through 4D is better than Ford. BUY THIS PRODUCT DON'T LET THE DEALERSHIP TAKE A TON OF YOUR MONEY FOR SOMETHING SO EASY!!!!!

Great service.
I bought the screen first for my 2012 Explorer. Turned out that wasn't what was wrong. I called them up and they let me exchange the screen for the APIM for the price difference. That fixed it!

2011 Ford Edge Apim.
Had my Edge at the local Ford dealer. After about a week they told me the couldnt find the APIM module anywhere. Im now glad they couldnt. They quoted me over $1200 to replace. I decided to look for myself and found 4D Tech. I bought the Apim with Nav. since that's what my Edge had. Saved over $500 and took 2 days to get it. It came preprogrammed to my vehicle and took 30 mintues to install. Literally just plug it in and put everything back together and it worked flawlessly. Would highly recommend.

I spent $120 for dealer diagnostic. The quote was for $1,160 to replace APIM module. Next time just call 4Dtech. The install is just as described in the video - and took about 30 minutes. The screen came to life instantly!! I do suggest you consider a trim tool to avoid scratches - and I found that separating the lower trim (around gear shift) from upper trim really required some force. Finally, before my purchase 4Dtech explained the APIM module would not fix any issues with the back-up camera - which is still upside down. Great product and great value!!

Simply awesome and extremely happy! (Canada)
After pricing in out from my Ford Dealer they wanted $1300 for the apim, $375 to install and then taxes on top of this. I held off for a long time until I discovered 4D Tech. Being cynical, I was very skeptical about having this ship to Canada, worrying about returning it if it didn't work...well that all is out the window.
Product arrived within 2 weeks, had to pay customs when I picked it up and I still saved over $800. Even with the exchange rate at 30% to CDN dollars, I still save a heck of a lot of money! Had a friend help me install, and boy was it ever easy. It took us longer to get all these tools ready than it did to install.
4D Tech, I can't thank you enough for this and great video on how to install.
Everyone, if you're waffling on this...stop and order immediately.

EXCELLENT!!!!!!! If your Ford APIM has gone bad, start here.
My 2011 Ford Explorer Limited with Sync w/o navigation went black. The screen would not turn on regardless of how many battery disconnects and fuze pulls I performed. Ford dealer diagnosed this as bad APIM and wanted to charge me $1200 to repair. I escalated the case to Ford USA and received no help. After a little internet research, I realize I could remove the APIM myself but would need a special program to install if I purchased from Ford parts. I quickly found 4Dtech.
Price is competitive and fair. I placed an order and had a few email exchanges with a support person. a few days later boxed arrived. I replaced the old APIM with the new APIM in less than 30 minutes. The 4Dtech module worked instantly out of the box. Zero issues at all!!!!! My one gripe is that I wished they provided an instruction set in the box or a link to removing the trim for my model Ford. Its relatively simple but still could add value. I would also have liked if they included at least one dash trim plastic tool. I had a few around so was prepared. Other than those very minor issues, I am very pleased to have a radio and back-up camera back in my car.
