SYNC 2 navigation shows the wrong vehicle location

If the map position lags behind your vehicle or appears off-road, start with the checks below. More than one issue can cause inaccurate tracking, so contact us if these steps do not resolve it.

1. Perform a SYNC master reset

Follow the SYNC 2 master-reset instructions. The reset clears paired phones and saved settings, but it does not remove programmed navigation from our current Ford navigation upgrade kits. Check whether the map tracks properly after the system restarts.

2. Check tire size

Compare the size marked on your tires with the vehicle’s door-jamb tire label. If the size has changed, tell us or ask a Ford service provider to check the tire-size value programmed into the vehicle. An incorrect value can affect navigation’s estimate of vehicle movement.

3. Ask about GPS module software

If tracking is still wrong, ask a Ford service provider to diagnose the GPS module (GPSM) and check whether a software update applies to your vehicle. Ford service message SSM 45215 describes a GPSM calibration for certain 2013–2015 vehicles built on or before September 30, 2014; it is not a blanket update for every SYNC 2 vehicle.

Tell the service provider about your 4D Tech upgrade. If the applicable repair calls for GPSM programming, ask them to work on the GPSM only. Do not authorize APIM firmware or configuration changes without talking with us first; those changes may affect the programmed upgrade.
