How to master reset SYNC 2 or SYNC 3

Choose the instructions for the SYNC system currently in your vehicle. A master reset clears personal settings and paired phones; it is different from updating software or changing module programming.

Before you begin: Park safely and allow a few minutes for the system to restart. Save any destinations or settings you want to keep. Disconnect USB devices. On our current Ford navigation upgrade kits, a SYNC master reset does not remove the programmed navigation feature.

SYNC 2 / MyFord Touch

  1. On the touchscreen, select Settings, then System.
  2. Go to the second page of the System menu and select Master Reset.
  3. Select Yes when SYNC asks you to confirm.
  4. Wait while the system performs maintenance and returns to the home screen. This may take several minutes.

If your screen does not show these menu choices, contact us with your vehicle year and a photo of the screen before proceeding.

SYNC 3

  1. With the vehicle in Park and running, select Settings on the bottom bar of the touchscreen.
  2. Select General. You may need to swipe to find it.
  3. Scroll to Master Reset and select it.
  4. Read the confirmation, then select Continue.
  5. Wait for the screen to go dark and the system to restart. This may take several minutes.

After the reset

Pair your phone again and restore any saved settings or destinations you need. If your vehicle already had FordPass remote features, the kit still supports them, but you may need to reconnect the vehicle to the app after a master reset.
