    get the right one

Posted by Unknown on May 3rd 2019

I love how easy it was to get this hub up and running. Once in place, the CarPlay experience was instantaneous.

Some caveats, though... make sure you get the right one. There are two options for a media hub - one with 2 usb ports, and one with 1 usb port and a 'remote' port. My car originally had a single USB port hub (and another port in the center console under the AC controls). I thought I was going to be able to add an extra port by getting the double port. Nope. Spent 15 fruitless minutes trying to jam both of the car's USB cables into the hub, where there was a blank face and no port to connect to.

Eventually, I realized I had gotten the wrong hub. I sent it back and got the single USB hub with the 'remote' port. The remote, in this case, refers to the second USB port that's in my center console. That went in very smoothly.

Another caveat - make sure to update your Sync3 to the latest version. I've read about people with issues in this regard.

Also - even after watching the video on how to install this thing, getting the old hub out and then its power and USB cables unplugged was tricky. I had to use a small flathead screwdriver to lever it out (causing a small scratch) and that same screwdriver to depress the tabs on the connectors to release them. And there's just not enough cable to pull it out far enough to easily work on it.

But once it all got put in, I'm extremely pleased with having CarPlay in the car.

    Perfect Match for Lincoln

Posted by Bill Henry on Mar 26th 2019

My 2016 Lincoln MKX did not come with Sync 3, as it was an early production model. This hub was a precise match for the ones I see in the 2018s that do come with Sync 3. Not only did the LED color match, but the secondary USB connection inside the console works just like it should with Sync 3. Very pleased with the results.

    Needed to get help..:

Posted by Deb on Aug 28th 2018

The device is very easy to install- the issue is downloading the sync3 update. I tried for 3 days, I could not get all the files unzipped- bought a 32 gig thumb drive ect.
I ended up taking it to the local ford dealership l- they kindly only charged me for 1/2 hour. So in the end it was still cheaper for me to do it myself

Hard to believe the dealer charges $250 for part and install which took maybe 10 minutes.

2016 Ford Edge - Apply Pay Works Great

    Posted by collinray@gmail.com on Nov 8th 2017

This install was very simple thanks to the online video directions. I performed the firmware update first and then installed the USB hub and the installation was complete. If you want AppleCar Play or Android Auto, this adapter works great and the install takes no more than 15-30 minutes.

    Makes Apple CarPlay work!

Posted by Gary on Aug 8th 2017

Update your Sync3 software to version 2.2 first. There's instructions online on how to do it. Make sure that is done first and working right. Plan on rebooting (complete shutdown and start up of the vehicle) at least once or twice before version 2.2 gets itself sorted out. Then swap out the old USB port for this one. The next time you plug it your iPhone, you'll have Apple CarPlay. Impressions: if you have Sync3 and navigation from Ford, I'm not convinced that Apple CarPlay offers any great advantages. In fact, I'm leaning towards not using CarPlay. The Sync3 and iPhone integration is pretty decent without CarPlay. To each, their own opinion. Bottom Line, this part does exactly what it is supposed to do, installation is easy.
